How Moin Robotics Boosted Productivity by 25%
Achieving a 25% efficiency gain and 20-month ROI through an accelerated 15-week speed-to-market.
Story Highlights
Accelerated Speed-to-Market: Utilizing Vention’s ecosystem eliminated the need for complex welded structures or custom fabrication, reducing mechanical design complexity and allowing for a rapid 15-week turnaround from concept to installation.
Adaptive Robotic Intelligence: The system utilizes a robot-mounted vision system to detect the exact position of labeling plates on IBCs and drums, allowing it to automatically compensate for shifting or offset containers on pallets.
Future-Proof Versatility: The modular architecture and flexible programming allow the end-user to easily adapt the system for different container sizes and label formats up to DIN A4, ensuring long-term utility as product needs evolve.
Standardized Platform, Customized Execution: By leveraging Vention’s platform and MoinLabelBot platform, Moin Robotics delivered a solution tailored to the chemical filling line’s specific constraints without the high costs of “ground-up” custom engineering.
The Problem
The customer, a contract filler in the chemical industry, was modernizing their filling line but faced a significant hurdle: labeling remained a manual, error-prone process. The primary challenge involved labeling both empty and filled drums and IBC containers on pallets. Because containers are often slightly offset or inconsistently positioned on pallets, manual application led to misaligned labels. Without automation, this stage would have remained a repetitive bottleneck, posing a safety-critical risk due to potential mislabeling of chemical products.
"For us as a mid-sized mechanical engineering company, working with Vention offers significant advantages. With a relatively small team, we are able to develop and implement highly capable automation solutions without the typical effort required for complex custom machine construction... This combination of modular technology, flexibility, and international support fits perfectly with our approach to developing scalable automation solutions like the MoinLabelBot."
The Project
The project was characterized by a seamless transition from digital design to physical deployment using the Vention ecosystem. During the initial six-week design phase, Moin Robotics utilized the MachineBuilder platform to create a detailed system layout that integrated a camera-based vision system for precise container detection. This was followed by an eight-week assembly phase in which the use of modular aluminum extrusions eliminated the need for traditional, time-consuming welded structures or complex custom fabrication. Finally, the system was installed and commissioned on-site in just one week, integrating directly into the customer’s existing conveyor and filling infrastructure. By serving as the core mechanical platform, Vention enabled a team to execute a sophisticated automation solution with high efficiency and reduced manufacturing effort.
The Results
Automating the labeling process yielded immediate quantitative gains, including a 25% increase in productivity and a projected Return on Investment (ROI) of approximately 20 months. The solution successfully eliminated one operator position per shift, removing staff from a monotonous role that previously involved long idle periods in an environment filled with chemical containers. Qualitatively, the system transformed the operation into a stable, highly repeatable process, significantly reducing labeling errors and improving placement quality. The modularity of the Vention components and the flexibility of the robot ensure the system is easily expandable, allowing the customer to process various container formats and label types—up to DIN A4—without significant downtime or hardware changes.
