Vention Inc. (“Vention”, “we”, or “us”) provides a fully integrated hardware and software design platform including collaborative features, to help people and companies develop industrial-grade equipment rapidly (the “Service”). Vention is committed to protect the personal information of its clients and users.

Purpose and Scope of the Policy

This Privacy Policy describes how we collect, use, store and disclose your personal information and how your personal information can be accessed, rectified, and deleted when necessary. This policy also explains how cookies are used on vention.io (the “Website”). Your continued use of Vention’s Website and Service means you agree to our Privacy Policy, so please take a few minutes to read and understand it. Your access to and use of the Services and Products is subject to our Terms of Use and our Terms of Sale. Any capitalized terms used but not defined in this Privacy Policy have the meaning providing in the General Terms and Conditions of Use and Sale.

This policy does not extend to websites operated by third parties. Our Website and Service may contain content from third parties or links to other websites that are not controlled by us, including links to websites of Vention’s Partners. Furthermore, we do not control privacy policies of such websites or third parties. Vention is therefore not liable for their privacy policies, procedures and practices. If you request a quote or purchase a product from a Partner, you are deemed to have given your consent to the terms and conditions of the Partner, as well as to the privacy policy of the Partner, and such terms and conditions and privacy policies shall be applicable for your information that is collected and used by the Partner. You acknowledge that Vention cannot be held liable for any issues related to obligations of privacy of our Partners.

1. Personal Information Collected

    1.1 Information that you provide to us

    We ask for and collect your personal information for the purposes identified at the time of collection, or as otherwise permitted or required by applicable law. These purposes include when you obtain information on our products and services, sign up for an account, contact us, purchase and use a Product on the Vention platform, request design support, share User Content and Customer Data, post on our social media accounts, or register for our newsletter. Our systems automatically processes content and information you and others provide in order for us to optimize your customer experience.

    You have the right to refuse to provide any personal information. You can also choose to withdraw any consent you may have given in relation to the processing of your personal information at any time, by contacting Vention at the address indicated hereunder. Your rights are outlined at Section 8 of the present Privacy Policy. However, we may not be able to operate adequately the Website and Service if you do not provide certain data.

    Depending on the circumstances, personal information may include the following:

    • Account Information.

      When you sign up for a Vention account (“Account"), we require certain information such as your first name, last name, phone number and email address.

    • Payment and Shipping Information.

      When you make a financial transaction with Vention (i.e. make a purchase), we may require, in addition to your name and email, your billing and shipping address and telephone number in order to confirm and ship your order and comply with applicable law. As we use the services of third party payment processors, we do not collect nor store any of your payment information (such as bank account or credit card information).

    • Contact Form, Live Chat, Social Media, Newsletter and Other Contact Information.

      When you communicate with us for general inquiries through our contact form, via the live chat embedded in the Website, or by any other means of communication, we will collect an store records of these interactions, including your contact information, social media handle, purchase history, when appropriate, as well as the information that is contained in such communications, in order for us to respond appropriately.

    • User Content and Customer Data Information

      When you publish User Content or provide, upload or submit Customer Data while using our Service and Products, or submit any other content on the Website such as comments, we may collect and store information contained in such content.

    1.2 Information provided on our Website

    Information we collect through our Website may include:

    • Usage and Log Data – We automatically receive information when you view or engage with our services (e.g. download White Papers), such as the type, duration and content of your activities on our Website, which we refer to as “Log Data”, even if you have not created an account with Vention. We use the Log Data to operate and optimize our services. For example, we review the Log Data to determine what content is popular on our Website.

    • Connection – We receive information, such as your IP address, country and city associated with your IP address, information about your browser and device-specific information.

    • Links – In order to operate our services, we keep track of how you interact with links across our platform. This may include links on our Website, email newsletters, and social media accounts (Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn).

    • Cookie data – Our Website, like most other commercial websites, also uses cookies. These are files that are installed on your computer hard drive or web browser in order to collect information such as your language of preference, browsing history and browser type and version, all for the purpose of optimizing your experience on our Website. These cookies cannot be used to extract personal information. However, we can match the information collected by cookies with other information through the Website. For more information about the cookies we use, see section 8.

We may also collect, use and share aggregated data such as statistical or demographic data for any purpose. Aggregated data may be derived from your personal information but is not considered personal data in law as this data does not directly or indirectly reveal your identity. For example, we may aggregate certain of your usage data to calculate the percentage of users accessing a specific Website feature. However, if we combine or connect aggregated data with your personal information so that it can directly or indirectly identify you, we treat the combined data as personal information which will be used in accordance with this Privacy Policy.

2. The Use of Your Personal Information

We collect, store, and process information, including personal and non-personal information, in a variety of ways in operating our business, mainly:

  • to allow us to provide our products and services.
  • to carry out our obligations arising from any contracts entered into between you and us and to provide you with the information, products and services that you request from us.

  • to do data analysis, system maintenance and support and survey processes.
  • to improve our Website and Service.
  • to administer and protect our business, Website and/or our Service, including troubleshooting, auditing and monitoring its use.
  • to detect, prevent and address security issues.
  • to answer questions and information requests.
  • to improve our inventory management.
  • for the purposes of marketing, advertising or contests.
  • for any other purposes authorized or required by law.

3. The Sharing of Your Personal Information

It is often necessary to use the services of third parties for the purposes of providing our own services to you. For example, third parties (including Partners) to whom we may share your personal information may assist us with the delivery of Products, payment processing, billing, customer service, hosting and analytics. We may need to share your information with them for these purposes. When we disclose your personal information to third parties, we take reasonable measures to ensure that the rules set forth in this Privacy Policy are complied with, including through contractual means. These third parties will obtain only the personal information that is necessary for the purpose for which Vention has employed them.

If such third parties or Partners are not assisting us in the provision of our Services (for example if you are requesting a quote from one of our Partners through our Website), we will seek your consent prior to sharing information to them. In these instances, User Content and Customer Data are not shared to the Partners, and only information such as your name, address, email address as well as information regarding the Partner’s parts that are ordered are shared, to ensure the Partner can fill the order.

Vention may share personal information with third parties to whom we may choose to, or with whom we are considering to, sell, transfer, or merge parts of our business or our assets. Alternatively, we may seek to acquire other businesses or merge with them. If a change happens to our business, then the new owners may use your personal information in the same way as set out in this Policy. We also reserve the right to disclose personal information if required to do so by law or in the good faith belief that such action is reasonably necessary to comply with legal process, enforce our General Terms and Conditions of Use and Sale, respond to claims, or to protect the rights, property or safety of Vention, our affiliates, service providers, or the public.

At any time, we may disclose to third parties non-personal data, such as aggregated information like the total number of times people engaged with a document or page on the Website.

4. Storage and Processing

Access to the Website and/or the Service may be provided using resources and servers located in various locations, including the United States. Therefore, personal information about you may be transferred, processed, and stored outside the country where the Website and/or Service are used. Your information may be stored and processed in any location where Vention or its subsidiaries, Partners, affiliates or service providers have facilities.

For users located in the European Economic Area (“EEA”), we may transfer personal data we have collected from you to servers, to Vention’s authorized personnel or to other third parties located outside of the EEA. However, when transferring your information, Vention will ensure that the country where they are transferred offers an adequate level of data protection. Such can either be achieved if an adequacy decision of the EU Commission according to Art. 45 of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) exists or by providing appropriate safeguards according to Art. 46 GDPR. In the absence of an adequacy decision of the EU Commission or of appropriate safeguards we will inform you about the risk of such transfer and will transfer the data only with your consent. We may share information collected with other affiliates companies of Vention in Canada.

5. Conservation Period

Vention undertakes to retain your personal data only for the period required to accomplish the purposes for which they are processed, unless further recording is permitted or requested by applicable law (e.g. in case of retention periods imposed by the applicable laws in force). To determine the appropriate retention period for personal information, we consider the amount, nature, and sensitivity of the personal information, the potential risk of harm from unauthorized use or disclosure of your personal information, the purposes for which we process your personal information and whether we can achieve those purposes through other means. We also take into account legal and regulatory requirements which require the retention of personal information for a minimum period of time, limitation periods for taking legal action, good practice and our general business purposes.

We will delete data provided based on a consent according to Art. 6 para. 1 lit a) of the GDPR if the user withdraws the consent unless further recording is permitted or requested by applicable law.

6. Marketing

As part of our Services, Vention may send you information about products and services of ours that we think you might like, as well as those of our Partners’.

We will only send you direct marketing communications by email or text if we have your consent. You may always opt out at a later date by following the unsubscribing instructions included in our marketing communications or changing your notification settings within your Vention Account. You have the right at any time to stop Vention from contacting you for marketing purposes.

7. Children and Our Services

Vention services are not directed to children, and you may not use our services if you are under the age of 13. You must also be old enough to consent to the processing of your personal data in your country (in some countries we may allow your parent or guardian to do so on your behalf by contacting privacy@vention.cc). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 or under the applicable age limit in your jurisdiction for giving consent to the processing of personal data (the “Age Limit”). If you are a parent of a child under the Age Limit and become aware that your child has provided personal information to Vention, please contact us at privacy@vention.cc and you may request exercise of your applicable access, rectification, cancellation, and/or objection rights.

9. Your Rights

You may exercise any of the rights described in this section by sending an email to privacy@vention.cc. Please note that we may ask you to verify your identity before taking further action on your request. Other rights may be granted to the user according to the applicable regulations on the protection of personal data.

If the request is related to data that is collected by any Partners, you may request the information from the Partner directly. In the case where your data is transferred to the Partner based on your demand in order to obtain a quote or Products, the relationship is between yourself and the Partner. Right to access – You have the right to request copies of your personal information held by us.

  • Right to rectification – You have the right to request that Vention correct any information you believe is inaccurate, you also have the right to request Vention to complete information you believe is incomplete. To make sure that the personal information we maintain about you is accurate and up to date, please inform us immediately of any change in your personal information at privacy@vention.cc.
  • Right to erasure – You have the right to request that Vention erase your personal data, under certain conditions. The right is not absolute and only applies in certain circumstances. For example, individuals have the right to have their information erased if:
    • The personal data is no longer necessary for the purpose which Vention originally collected or processed it for and is not required to be retained by law;
    • The data has to be erased to comply with a legal obligation; or
    • The data was collected from a child.
  • Right to restrict processing – You have the right to request that Vention restrict the processing of your personal data, under certain conditions.
  • Right to object processing – You have the right to object to Vention’s processing of your personal data, under certain conditions.
  • Right to data portability – You have the right to request that Vention transfer the data that we have collected to another organization, or directly to you, under certain conditions.
  • Right to know about automated decision-making – You have the right to be informed when your personal information is used to render a decision exclusively based on an automated processing.

10. Security

We take reasonable precautions to protect the privacy, accuracy, and reliability of any information you provide to us and we use adequate technical and organizational safety measures in order to protect your information from loss, misuse, destruction, unauthorized access, copy or alteration. We have also implemented physical and organizational safeguards in accordance with which only employees who need the information to perform a specific job are granted access to personally identifiable information.

We have put in place procedures to deal with any suspected personal information breach and will notify you and any applicable regulator of a breach where we are legally required to do so.

However, while we endeavor to use security measures consistent with industry standards and reasonable efforts to safeguard the confidentiality of your information, we cannot guarantee that information provided to us will not be intercepted and remain secure.

11. Update to this Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy may be amended from time to time, due to the development of our Service, our Website or for legal matters. When modifying our Privacy Policy, we will make commercially reasonable efforts to advertise such modifications on our Website. Your continued use of the Website and the Service after any such change constitutes your acceptance of this Privacy Policy, as revised.

We may, but are not obligated to, provide you with notice in case of any material changes made to this Policy. Your continued use of the Website and/or Service after any changes in this Policy will constitute your acceptance of such change.
